Montague Tree Farms was started in the late 1940s by Walter
Hunt when he purchased the 360-acre farm to start growing Christmas trees. In 1978, his daughter Cindy and her
husband, Dave Francis, took over the farm and continue to spread the Christmas
spirit. Christmas is still a large part
of the farms business, providing both retail and wholesale Christmas trees,
holiday wreaths, and garland. But Cindy
and Dave have greatly expanded the farm to include landscape design,
installation and maintenance, lawn services, invasive species control, and selling
balled-and-burlapped evergreens and hardwoods.
Sustainability and conservation are important to us. Since 2016, we have been operating on solar energy
mainly from the solar panels right here on the farmstead.
We are happy to share that as of Fall 2020, we are MAEAP verified in Cropping and Farmstead systems! The Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program is a voluntary program that works with farms to adopt environmentally friendly conservation practices to help minimize their impact on the environment.
